Sussex Equine Hospital have an exciting opportunity for Interns to join their friendly team.
There will be five main areas of responsibility:
Firstly, the overseeing of in-patient care. This will involve working as a team with the nurses. You will be required to examine patients, check on treatment plans, carry out bandage changes and perform such diagnostic procedures as each case requires (e.g. Arthrocentesis, Abdominocentesis). Of importance will be communication with the owners and trainers of the patient and coordination of the case with the referring Vet.
The second area of responsibility will involve performing the majority of the Anaesthetics.
The third area of responsibility will be to oversee the Nuclear Scintigraphy unit. This will involve performing bone scans as part of 1 in 4 rota.
The fourth role is to work alongside the Clinicians in the hospital, working up cases including surgical cases and lameness'.
The fifth area of responsibility will be to deal with some occasional outpatient cases, such as vaccinations and rasping teeth. There will also be an opportunity to do some ambulatory work.
General Duties
In between performing your more specific duties, you will be required to oversee and become involved with some of the day patient procedures (e.g. Radiography, Endoscopy).

About the Team and Culture
Our team is made up of 4 specialist Surgeons, 2 Internal Medicine specialists, 2 Repro specialists and 1 Sports Medicine specialist. We also have 3 Nurses,4 Student Nurses, 1 Nursing Assistant, 6 Grooms, 2 Pharmacy dispensers, 3 Scientific Officers, a Clinic Supervisor, 6 Interns, 1 Resident, 13 support staff, 2 Housekeepers and 12 Ambulatory Veterinarians.
We hold a Bi-Yearly Open Day, where we collect donations for a charity as voted by the staff. Moreover, we also sponsor local events and have regular staff socials that everyone can attend.
Applicant Requirements
This role would suit a recent graduate or someone wishing to increase their knowledge and skills in Equine Veterinary Medicine and Surgery. You will need to have a positive attitude to life, have a kind and caring nature, be enthusiastic, practical, hard-working and a good communicator with a "go-getter" attitude.
