BEVA has introduced a Nurse Committee to guide BEVA on issues that are important to veterinary nurses working in equine practice. The committee, which currently comprises nine members and is chaired by Marie Rippingale REVN, will ensure BEVA gains a nursing perspective on all equine veterinary issues.

Committee members:

Marie Rippingale (Chair) – Bottle Green Training

Jude Smith – Hambleton Equine Clinic

Cassie Woods – Lower House Equine Clinic

Louise Pailor – Wright and Morten Equine Vets

Lynsey Bett – Loch Leven Equine Practice

Rebecca Bruford – B&W Equine

Rosina Lillywhite – Liphook Equine Hospital

Mary Simock – Donnington Grove Equine Vets

Sophie Haylock – Newmarket Equine Hospital

“I am delighted that BEVA has put together an Equine Nurses Committee and given equine nurses a voice,” said Marie Rippingale. “This is a fantastic opportunity for us to identify and address current issues, as well as to establish a clear path to push this profession forwards.  As a Committee we are excited to get out and speak to other equine nurses and use the feedback to inform our focus and direction. We are delighted to be collaborating with the BVNA. We feel that by working together, BEVA and BVNA can reach more nurses, and be more effective at addressing the issues that nurses are currently facing in equine practice’.

How to get involved

The BEVA Nurse Committee will be available during two sessions at BVNA Congress, both on Friday 7th October:

•Introduction and Q&A session: 9.30am – 10.15am in ‘The Hub’ (Exhibition)

• Workshop: Progression of the equine veterinary nursing role: 1.15pm – 2.15pm in Ludlow 2 (‘Nursing the equine patient’ stream)

These sessions will seek to identify the main issues facing equine veterinary nurses in practice. A greater understanding of these issues will help to formulate strategic approaches to addressing these problems, in order to develop and push the profession forwards. The workshop will be an interactive session comprising tasks, group work, and group discussion.

Members of the committee will also be at BVNA Congress on Saturday 8 October. ‘Please come and speak to us at BVNA. We will be easy to identify in BEVA branded clothing. We would love to hear your thoughts and ideas’.
