BEVA has introduced new hands-on sessions for Veterinary Nurses at this year’s BEVA Congress (11-14 September 2024, the ACC in Liverpool); not only will there be a dedicated lecture and workshop stream but there will also be essential practical sessions on critical care and bandaging, casting and suturing.
The Nursing stream will run all day on Friday 13 September. The varied and engaging programme has been designed by BEVA’s Equine Veterinary Nurse Committee, chaired by Marie Rippingale.
Critical care session: Nurses will be able to problem solve and actively carry out nursing tasks on a variety of models to simulate treating real life critical care cases.
Bandaging, casting and suturing practical: Nurses will be immersed in a practical learning experience where they can showcase their existing skills and learn new ones, all to the benefit of their equine patients in the future.
The nursing stream also includes a neurodiversity workshop which is open to all. This promises to be a highly constructive session, during which the topic will be thoroughly explored and practical applications to practice discussed.
On the Congress theme of One Health leading speakers will help the audience to apply new concepts to their daily lives in practice. Topics will cover human factors, assisting clients to make changes and assisting the fire brigade during rescue scenarios.
“All in all - this Congress nursing stream is not to be missed!” Said Marie Rippingale. “It is a perfect balance of theory and practical sessions run by friendly and approachable experts in their field who are keen to share their knowledge and experience for the benefit of the equine nursing profession.
This year Congress is celebrating the theme of ‘one medicine’ to showcase the importance of knowledge sharing between human and equine medicine. The opening address will be given by Olympic gold medallist Sally Gunnell, who will be sharing her thoughts on maximising performance. In total there will be 90+ hours of live and on-demand CPD at Congress, covering virtually every aspect of equine medicine, surgery and practice.
The full BEVA Congress programme is live.
BEVA members prices for Congress for all three days are £597 for vets (with concessionary prices available for those in their first three years of graduation or earning less than £25,000) and £221 for nurse members for all three days). Day tickets and practice passes are also available.
