Senior/experienced equine vet required from May 2025

• Full or part time position

• Based near Royston, Hertfordshire

• 1:5 out of hours rota

• 65k pro-rata plus pension

About us…..

Tyrrells Equine Clinic is a busy independent, equine only veterinary practice established for over 20 years. Our team of 5.5 FTE vets, 2 RVNs and 4 support staff provide a complete range of at-the-yard and clinic-based services to our lovely, longstanding client base and their horses. We have a purpose-built clinic with extensive facilities including 6 stables, surgical suite, treatment room with stocks and areas for lameness assessments as well as a full range of modern diagnostic treatment including objective gait analysis system.

About the job…..

This is an integral role to our practice providing routine, advanced and emergency services alongside senior and associate veterinary surgeons. Seeing a broad range of leisure horses, sports horses, thoroughbreds and the occasional donkey too. The clinical cases seen in this role are both varied, interesting and wherever possible allocated according to your areas of interest. As an independent practice with our own facilities, our vets have the freedom to work up cases, pass on internally, or refer to an external hospital as they see fit.

Essentials skills…….

• Skilled in all areas of first opinion/ambulatory clinical work

• The ability to provide more involved procedures (can be poor performance/lameness, internal medicine, minor surgical/dental, anaesthesia, pre-purchase examination or a combination of these)

• Enjoys involvement in mentoring less experienced veterinary surgeons and nurses in the development of skills

• Confident and empathetic staff and client communication

• Ability to work collaboratively and proactively within a team

Experience in stud work very advantageous.

Opportunities to develop clinical or managerial skills towards a clinical director role if desired but not essential.
