CityUHK is the first University in the region to offer a Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine (BVM). The 6-year BVM, established in 2017 in partnership with the College of Veterinary Medicine at Cornell University, received dual accreditation from the Australasian Veterinary Boards Council (AVBC) and the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS) in 2023.
The Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences (VCS) was established in 2020 in the Jockey Club College of Veterinary Medicine and Life Sciences (JCC) as part of CityUHK. VCS has a clear vision to be Asia’s preeminent body advancing veterinary clinical science in response to evolving societal needs. Our strategic goals include attracting world-class clinical faculty, establishing academic post-graduate veterinary residency-training and Master’s programmes, establishing an outstanding clinical research environment to deliver outcomes that benefit all species, and fostering strong community engagement through excellent clinical service and outreach. Generous start-up grant and administrative support are offered for the appointee. Clinical service is negotiable depending on the interests of the appointee and the needs of the Department.
The position will be appointed on clinical track or tenure track.
Duties
The appointee will actively contribute to the missions of VCS to train highly professional veterinary clinicians, to advance equine health through clinical research and to engage with the local community. The appointee will have a strong focus on teaching of equine practice, internal medicine and/or sports medicine and rehabilitation across the Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine (BVM) curriculum to ensure that students can attain Day 1 competences related to equine practice as well as post-graduate programmes when required. The appointee will help students integrate and apply knowledge, skills and professional attitudes; integrate with and potentially provide clinical services for our partner, the Hong Kong Jockey Club; and take up administrative work and other duties to facilitate the development of the College and its Departments as a whole. We expect individuals to develop their work internationally through services, networking and leadership in the field. Active involvement in research is expected. Tenure-track faculty are expected to acquire extramural funding and establish an independent research programme.
Requirements
The appointee must possess a veterinary qualification recognized for registration as a veterinary surgeon in Hong Kong. Board certification (European, Australian/New Zealand, American or equivalent Boards, including ABVP) in equine internal medicine, equine sports medicine or equine practice is required for appointment at Clinical Associate Professor level or above. For Clinical Assistant Professor, credentials for Board certification should be completed, or near completion. Candidates with a PhD and relevant experience will also be considered. Experience in clinical teaching, service and research is required. A PhD is required for Tenure Track.
