Internship at The Equine Veterinary Medical Center (EVMC), Doha

BEVA Recognised Internship
10 Oct 2024 BEVA

EVMC is seeking applicants for our 18-month hospital-based internship. Positions will commence in late 2024 (immediately) and early 2025.

The Equine Veterinary Medical Center (EVMC), Doha, is seeking candidates to come and join our team of 5 interns in Qatar. If you are looking to combine the highest standards of clinical work with an international adventure in a vibrant, exciting, and welcoming city then look no further!

EVMC is a purpose-built state-of-the-art equine hospital that opened its doors in 2018 and has since grown to see over 2500 cases per year and become one of the most advanced equine medical centers in the Middle East. The hospital is equipped with advanced imaging (MRI, CT-scanner and nuclear scintigraphy), as well as several endoscopes, digital X-Ray (gantry and portable) and a range of ultrasound units. The hospital has three operating theaters (2 GA and 1 standing), a dedicated isolation unit, intensive care facilities for adult horses and foals, a farrier shop, lameness examination areas on several surfaces, an on-site commercial laboratory and a dedicated advanced reproduction center.

EVMC is part of Qatar Foundation, a non-profit organization that supports Qatar on its journey to becoming a diversified and sustainable economy. By offering lifelong learning opportunities, fostering a culture of innovation, and empowering the local community, we are investing in Qatar’s future and contributing to a better world.

This is an amazing opportunity for a veterinarian with an interest in equine work to develop their skills under the guidance of our highly experienced team of board-certified diplomats. The 18-month internship rotates through the hospital’s key departments: internal medicine and intensive care, surgery and sports medicine and reproduction – each with a diverse and exciting case-load. As the only hospital of its kind in Qatar we offer services not only to the world class Arabian horses of Al Shaqab, but also to all horses in the country. This includes international sport horses competing at the Al Shaqab Longines Arena (which is located just minutes from the hospital), racehorses, pleasure horses and show horses from all over the country.

Requirements and details of position:

  • Interns work alongside our team of grooms, vet assistants, nurses and experienced clinicians to foster critical thinking, improved clinical decision-making, and technical proficiency.
  • The interns will participate in the provision of out-of-hours care, with the support of the team.
  • The ideal candidate will be motivated to continue on to a residency or similar and have an interest in experiencing life in the Gulf.
  • DVM or equivalent required

Benefits and compensation: We offer an attractive package that includes a tax-free salary, paid annual leave, medical insurance, housing allowance and airfare allowance at the beginning and end of contract.
