Equine Veterinary Surgeon

Hambleton Equine Clinic is recruiting an Equine Veterinary Surgeon to join our team. We are a well-established, purpose built, independent equine clinic in beautiful North Yorkshire with a fantastic, close-knit team. We have a full range of modern diagnostic equipment as well as full theatre and hospital facilities with inpatient capacity for over 20 horses. Our case work includes everything from leisure, performance and sports horses, racing and stud work.

The successful candidate will have a keen interest and experience with equine reproductive work. The role will be mainly ambulatory, with some practice-based work and follow-up of your own cases is encouraged and supported. You will have responsibility for a wide range of equine veterinary work and have the freedom to explore your own areas of interest with support from the Clinic.

You will take an equal share in the out of hours on call rota, currently one weeknight every other week, one weekend in eight.

The main duties of this role in addition to the reproductive work, will include;

  • All tasks associated with first opinion ambulatory practice, including but not limited to routine vaccinations, dentistry & health checks, pre-purchase vetting, diagnostics including blood tests, gastroscopy, diagnostic imaging (ultrasound, MRI, X-ray), endoscopy and relevant physical examinations, orthopaedic assessments examinations and treatment including nerve block diagnostics, examination and treatment of medical cases, emergency and critical care, euthanasia
  • Client liaison and interface including discussion of results.
  • Report writing and reporting of case evaluation, progression and resolution
  • Interface with insurance companies as required.
  • Update of the practice management system to keep appropriate electronic records and booking work completed to the accounts system.
  • Comply with practice protocols for record keeping regarding pharmaceutical products, stock and restricted medications.
  • Providing a high level of customer satisfaction and a positive experience with Hambleton Equine Clinic.
