Valley Equine Hospital is looking for 2 highly enthusiastic and hard working  new/recent veterinary graduates for our 13-month rotating internship. The programme is designed to produce highly competent and confident veterinarians, ready to pursue any path in equine practice.

Interns are integral to the day-to-day operations of the practice, and have a significant clinical responsibility for all cases from the outset. There is a handover period of 4-6 weeks with the outgoing interns, which is invaluable for the incoming interns to familiarise themselves with all facets of our busy hospital.

Mentoring of interns is led predominantly by our 2 in-house surgeons, accompanied by our 6 ambulatory vets, experienced nursing team and other boarded specialists in surgery, medicine, diagnostic imaging and anaesthesia from the wider CVS hospital network.

The hospital caseload that interns are exposed to is predominantly elective surgical cases, emergency referrals and sports medicine cases. Interns are responsible for anaesthesia, and receive specialised training for this both in-house and from an external boarded equine anaesthesiologist.

The on-call rota is 1 in 2, with interns gaining vital experience in primary management of all emergency cases. Accommodation is provided on site in a large 5 bedroom house overlooking the practice.

Interns benefit from the structured CVS New Graduate Scheme for CPD provision as well as VetGDP support from our in-house team.

About the practice

Valley Equine Hospital is in Lambourn, Berkshire. We see predominantly Thoroughbred horses in training and professional sports horses, with a smaller case load of leisure horses.

We are an RCVS accredited referral hospital, with a long standing internship programme graduating interns into all walks of equine life. We have stabling for up to 20 horses, with a separate isolation unit and bone scan barn. We have the Hallmarq standing distal limb CT scanner, as well as facilities to perform nuclear scintigraphy, radiography, ultrasonography, overground/dynamic endoscopy, resting endoscopy and gastroscopy.

Our practice has RCVS Hospital Tier Status.
