How it was made! … From the horses Mouth… Or is that NOSE!

Redwings Horse Sanctuary are delighted to showcase their EPIC training creation - a full size, real to life endoscopy training model. The model, a first of its kind, features life size, life like anatomy with guttural pouch access and optional condroids!

Users can practice endoscopy access using the Eickemeyer EickView 100 Video Handheld Endoscope device kindly loaned for the show.

The model has been created by Georgie Hollis (perhaps better known to BEVA for her wound management interests) in her role as creative director of Gray’s Anatomical. Following many months of research and collaboration with Redwings’ Nic de Brauwere the true to life simulation makes its debut at BEVA Congress 2023.

Nic said: “The ability to offer a simulation training experience for endoscope access to the guttural pouch is a HUGE step forward. We believe it is the first time this has been achieved.” “The benefits of a model of this kind mean that clinicians and students can practice endoscopy techniques without injuring the patient, developing their hand-eye coordination and being able to practice with a range of condroid types to hone their skills for atraumatic retrieval”  “That in turn can only be good for welfare…….”

Georgie said. “ We have been working on this prototype together for a few years and it is great to see it on show for the first time at BEVA congress. It has been a great experience working with Nic and the team at Redwings and we are really looking forward to developing the next version together.” “I have a real love for combining art and science to create models that enable realistic opportunities for clinical training.

Dave Morley said “This has been asked for and required within the equine market for years. It will give vets the hand-eye co-ordination skills they need to optimise their skills. It’s as close to real life as we could possibly get.”

The creation of this model is a huge achievement and the first to be produced in a collaborative venture between Georgie Hollis (Gray’s Anatomical Ltd) and Redwings Horse Sanctuary.
