We’re excited to be teaming up with Rossdales to provide a brand new online course in January. Course organiser and Rossdales vet Emily Floyd tells us more about what to expect from the Advanced Foal Discussion Forum...

The 2022 foaling season is nearly upon us! Are you ready to deal with the many challenges associated with treating the sick neonatal foal? Rossdales have teamed up with BEVA to offer a one-day virtual course to help prepare you for the season ahead!

This course is aimed at vets with an interest in neonatology and will focus on management of foals in the hospital setting. The information presented will however be transferable to first opinion practice and the course is suitable for all vets who treat equine neonates, or would like to further their knowledge in the area.

The virtual format is allowing us to involve speakers from around the world. Our panel of speakers includes world renowned experts with wide ranging backgrounds and interests in neonatology.

What is the best treatment for refractory seizures? How should you monitor fluid therapy in the foal with severe sepsis? Should you give steroids to the premature foal?

These are just some of the challenging questions that we plan to cover.

A wide range of topics will be covered including prematurity, severe sepsis, refractory seizures and severe enterocolitis. The course will have a practical focus and topics will be covered in a case-based format. This will enable different perspectives and options for treatment to be discussed. Delegates will be encouraged to be involved in the discussion.

This course is a really exciting opportunity to update your knowledge of equine neonatology and get your brain prepared for the 2022 season!
