RCVS news: Disciplinary Committee suspends overseas-based vet from the Register

The Disciplinary Committee of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS) has decided to suspend an overseas-based veterinary surgeon for a period of 12 months.

VMD relaxes restrictions on flunixin in response to vet pressure

BEVA has welcomed the news that the Veterinary Medicines Directorate (VMD) has relaxed its recently imposed restrictions on the sale of the essential equine pain killer, flunixin by allowing the release of stock from manufacturers. This action will, in the short term, restore access to this medicine for use in non-food producing horses.

VETS APPLAUD NEW METHOD FOR EQUINE PERFORMANCE ASSESSMENT

A new method for equine performance assessment has been tested on vets. Conducted by Dr Sue Dyson, Head of Clinical Orthopaedics at the Centre for Equine Studies at the Animal Health Trust in Newmarket, the study assessed how accurately vets may be able to use an ethogram1, developed by Dr. Dyson, to assess pain in ridden horses. The participating vets collectively commended the value of the ethogram, which defines 24 ridden behaviours that may reflect pain and lameness.
