New President for BEVA

Renate Weller, a professor for comparative biomechanics and imaging at the Royal Veterinary College (RVC) in London and the new Director of Veterinary Education at CVS Group plc has been appointed as President of the British Equine Veterinary Association (BEVA) for 2017/18. She takes over the role from Jon Pycock at the end of BEVA Congress 12-15 September 2018. Tim Mair, of Bell Equine Veterinary Clinic and editor of EVE becomes President Elect.

‘Perfect storm’ has heightened Atypical Myopathy risk warns BEVA

Bare pastures and potential hay shortages, coupled with early transatlantic storms blowing seeds from laden sycamore trees, have created the ‘perfect storm’ to increase the risks of atypical myopathy for grazing horses, warns the British Equine Veterinary Association (BEVA). Experts are advising horse owners to take steps now to minimise the risks of this fatal disease.

Vet Wellbeing Awards Open for Entries

The Society for Practising Veterinary Surgeons (SPVS) and the Mind Matters Initiative (MMI) have launched this year’s Vet Wellbeing Awards and are taking entries at www.vetwellbeingawards.org.uk. This year, the entry form is split down into shorter, bite size questions which we hope will make it easier for practices to enter.
