Dentistry is one of the most common tasks performed by equine vets, and they are more knowledgeable and better equipped for it than ever before. To help support its members with the provision of good primary equine dental care BEVA has introduced some new online dental resources, with specific sections for vets and for horse owners.

Horse industry applauds success of NEHS Survey which saw Blue Cross join up with other charities and sector leads for equine health

In its eighth and final year the annual National Equine Health Survey (NEHS) has confirmed its importance as an accurate tracker of endemic equine disease in the UK. The results of the 2018 survey remain consistent with previous survey results, providing a clear sense of what continues to affect the health of British horses year on year, helping equine specialists to benchmark and educate on current and predicted equine health priorities.

Scientific research into equine vision leads to trial of new fence and hurdle design to further improve safety in jump racing

Dr William Brian Singleton CBE, Dip ACVS, FRCVS

Dr. Brian Singleton died quietly at his home in Blakeney, Norfolk, on 23rd October 2018, at the ripe old age of 95. Brian was one of the most distinguished veterinary surgeons of his or any generation and had the unique distinction of being a Past President and one of the founding members of the BSAVA, a Past President of the RCVS and perhaps surprisingly, also of BEVA. I am certain that this will never be achieved again.

London, UK – October 2, 2018 – Zoetis Ltd has announced that it will continue to supply an alternative equine rotavirus vaccine under a Wholesale Dealer Import Certificate (WDIC) until normal supply of the unique licensed product Equip Rotavirus can be restored. 

RCVS issues statement regarding Defra proposal for Certification Support Officers

The Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS) has issued a position statement concerning Animal and Plant Health Agency (APHA) proposals for the new role of Certification Support Officers (CSOs). These proposals have been developed in the context of an existing veterinary workforce shortage and of Brexit, which the former Chief Veterinary Officer Nigel Gibbens estimated could lead to a 325% increase in the need for veterinary certification of animal products for export.
