About this course

We’re excited to announce this brand-new course that will enable you to get the most from your ultrasound scanners and improve your confidence in diagnosing a wide range of illnesses.

Whether you have the scanner in your car or bring horses into the hospital for a workup, this two day course will ensure you can confidently take diagnostic images and understand what common pathologies look like in every part of the body from the GI tract through to eyes, lymph nodes and common lumps and bumps.

Throughout the day we will discuss the theory and explore practical cases, giving you time to assess and discuss the correct imaging method, what can be achieved in different settings and what the findings are. We’ll cover everything from the more common, including intestinal thickness and cloudy eyes, to the more unusual, like the location of the accessory sex glands and the salivary glands.

Learning outcomes

By the end of the course you will...

  • Understand when ultrasound of the abdomen and thorax is a useful diagnostic technique and when it’s not
  • Confidently locate and assess kidneys, liver, spleen, peritoneal fluid and the GI tract where accessible
  • Understand how to assess a horse for pleural effusion
  • Confidently FLASH scan colics
  • Confidently use ultrasound to assess painful eyes and cloudy corneas
