BEVA Trust is looking for one or two volunteer vets to travel to Türkiye to support an international workshop held at Afton Kocatepe University organised by Prof. Dr. Halil Selçuk Biricik.
The workshop on Working Equids is intended to introduce Veterinarians, owners, local authorities, researchers, and Veterinary students to the field of Donkey Welfare and to held in Mardin City of Türkiye in February 2025. Mardin (https://goturkiye.com/blog/the-cradle-of-civilizations-the-city-of-tolerance-mardin) is one of the oldest cities of upper Mesopotamia, located in the Southeastern Anatolia region of Türkiye. Donkeys haul garbage collected in Mardin, a province under UNESCO protection, due to a ban on vehicles in the province’s narrow streets.
The volunteers will participate in field visits to local communities, equine hospitals and local welfare organisations. Volunteers will also visit the University and deliver lectures on donkey welfare to students at Afyon Kocatepe University. Volunteers will all deliver sessions for the first Donkey welfare conference.
Knowledge and practical experience of working equids' welfare is desirable but not essential, including skills such as handling and restraining techniques, lameness, oral fluid administration, basic wound management, first aid during emergencies, basic dental care, skin problems, and ectoparasites.
Flights, accommodation and meals will be provided by host and BEVA Trust.
